Who is Karl Hans Albrecht?

Karl Hans Albrecht was born on February 20, 1920. Younger brother Theodor Paul Albrecht followed on March 28, 1922, and the two brothers from Essen, Germany would go from incredibly humble beginnings to the head of Aldi, a multi-billion-dollar empire.

Little is known about the Albrechts. They don't speak to the press or attend openings of their stores. The Albrecht family matriarch, Anna, opened the first storefront in Essen, Germany, in 1913. The New York Times reported that in the 1930s, her husband, Karl Albrecht Sr., got sick and could no longer work, so she had to run the store to support their family.
